
Ahmedabad, April 24: A special NDPS court sentenced two drug traffickers to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment on Friday. Additionally, both were fined ₹2 lakh each.
According to an official statement, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Ahmedabad zonal unit secured the sentencing of Sheikh Mohammad Sohel Abdul Kader (resident of Syed Wada, Khanpur, Ahmedabad) and Nadeem Sheikh (resident of Golwad Lal Bangla, Shahpur, Ahmedabad).
NCB officials intercepted the two accused on November 11, 2023, at Kalupur Railway Station in Ahmedabad as they arrived on Train No. 22953 (Gujarat Express) from Mumbai, based on credible intelligence.
During a search conducted in the presence of an officer, 504 grams of mephedrone (MD) were recovered from the duo. The NCB formally arrested both individuals on the same day.
During the investigation, both accused recorded their statements under Section 67 of the NDPS Act, revealing their roles in the procurement and transportation of the narcotic substance.
The investigation established a complete chain of conspiracy and interstate drug trafficking based on call detail records, travel records, hotel records, and financial transactions.
After the investigation concluded, a case was registered on May 4, 2024, in the special NDPS court of the City Civil and Sessions Court, Ahmedabad, under Sections 8(c), 22(c), and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Following the hearing, the special NDPS court found both accused guilty and imposed a sentence of 15 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹2 lakh each.
The NCB reiterated its appeal for public cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking.
