Gandhinagar, April 27: Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi launched a strong attack on the Congress party and its MLA Imran Khedawala during the local body elections held on Sunday. He accused the opposition of attempting to sway voters and communalize the electoral process.
Sanghvi referred to the elections as “the biggest festival of democracy” and urged citizens to come out in large numbers to cast their votes. He emphasized that all residents should strive to ensure maximum participation in this significant democratic event, highlighting that extensive arrangements were made for a smooth voting process.
His remarks came in response to Khedawala’s appeal to voters to cast their ballots against government decisions, which included references to “bulldozer” actions. In a video, Khedawala stated that issues like “bulldozer politics” and the “Disturbed Areas Act” have dominated discussions during the BJP’s 30 years in power. He stressed the importance of voting to counter these issues and encouraged people to visit polling booths and support their candidates.
Sanghvi alleged that such statements are part of a larger, ongoing effort. He claimed that whether it is Imran or other parties, this conspiracy has not emerged recently. There have been continuous attempts through various means to create a divisive atmosphere. He accused opposition leaders of trying to twist the elections along religious lines.
He urged voters to remain vigilant and ensure that “not a single vote goes to waste,” noting that everyone in Gujarat has witnessed these attempts to influence the electoral process.
Voting took place across Gujarat on Sunday from 7 AM to 6 PM under tight security.
