China and Myanmar Foreign Ministers Hold Key Meeting

Beijing, April 26: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Myanmar’s Foreign Minister Tin Maung Swe in Naypyidaw on April 25.

During the meeting, Wang Yi congratulated Tin Maung Swe on his appointment as Foreign Minister. He emphasized the significance of this meeting, marking the formation of a new government in Myanmar and the beginning of a new phase in national development. This visit underscores China’s commitment to strengthening ties with Myanmar. Wang stated that China aims to be a reliable friend and partner for Myanmar at all times.

China seeks to enhance high-level exchanges and practical cooperation with Myanmar. The goal is to assist Myanmar in its development and revitalization efforts, achieving new milestones in building a community with a shared future.

Wang Yi reiterated China’s firm support for Myanmar in safeguarding its national sovereignty, security, and development interests. He expressed the desire to strengthen strategic communication and practical cooperation in post-earthquake reconstruction. Both sides should enhance collaboration in sectors like electricity, oil, and gas, as well as trade investment, emerging fields, security cooperation, and youth exchanges. Additionally, they must jointly combat online gambling and telecommunications fraud.

On his part, Tin Maung Swe acknowledged that Myanmar and China are friendly neighboring countries. Both nations advocate for the five principles of peaceful coexistence, setting an ideal example for friendly exchanges. Myanmar remains steadfast in its one-China policy and seeks to expand cooperation with China across various sectors. The country will make every effort to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel within its borders. Furthermore, Myanmar fully supports the four global initiatives presented by Chinese President Xi Jinping and significant ideas in international affairs. It is hoped that China will provide greater support to Myanmar on multilateral platforms.
