Mumbai, May 28: Actor Subodh Bhave is set to portray Neem Karoli Baba in the upcoming film ‘Shri Baba Neeb Karori Maharaj.’ He believes that embodying this divine character is the most fortunate moment of his life, made possible only by the blessings of the Baba.
In an exclusive interview, Bhave shared his spiritual experiences from the first day of shooting and the positive energy he felt throughout the journey.
“I am thrilled that this film is finally being released, as people have been eagerly waiting for it. Millions of devotees visit Baba’s Kainchi Dham Ashram every year from across India and the world. Their unwavering faith in him is commendable. It is an honor to be chosen to portray Maharaj Ji,” Bhave expressed.
He added, “Playing the role of any saint is incredibly challenging because people regard them with immense reverence and devotion. Saints hold a sacred place in their hearts. Portraying such a figure is never easy without their blessings. I firmly believe that I could take on this role because Maharaj Ji’s grace has been with me.”
Recalling the beginning of this journey, Bhave mentioned that he did not know much about Baba when director Sharad Singh Thakur approached him with the story. “I had heard his name from some industry friends who frequently visited Kainchi Dham, but I had never been there myself. However, when Sharad Ji narrated Baba’s life story, I felt a deep connection. I was surprised that he reached out to me, as neither he nor his team knew me personally. It dawned on me that an actor does not choose to play a saint; the saint chooses their actor. I truly believe that Maharaj Ji selected me for this role.”
Bhave described a spiritual incident during his first day of shooting in Prayagraj, at the very house where Maharaj Ji used to stay. The house belonged to one of his disciples and was built under Baba’s guidance. The room where he slept has been preserved, complete with his picture, bed, and the ongoing tradition of daily worship.
“When I first arrived at that place, I bowed down and paid my respects. Many elderly devotees who had seen Baba in person were present. They seated me and draped over me the same blanket that Maharaj Ji used. Some applied sandalwood paste, others marked my forehead with a tilak, and many offered flowers. At that moment, I truly felt that Maharaj Ji was present before me.”
Bhave described this moment as the most extraordinary experience of his life. “It was remarkable. I felt a powerful, positive, and sacred energy entering me, filled with selfless love and compassion. I believe that first day of shooting was crucial for us, as we received Baba’s direct approval and blessings. This was the reason our entire filming journey became incredibly smooth.”
