Eid al-Adha Celebrated Across India with Enhanced Security Measures

New Delhi, May 28: Eid al-Adha is being celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country today. Since morning, thousands have gathered at mosques and Eidgahs to perform special prayers.

People donned traditional attire to participate in the prayers and exchanged greetings with family, friends, and neighbors.

Participants expressed that this festival conveys a message of “brotherhood, communal harmony, and peaceful coexistence.” It also serves as a reminder of compassion, sacrifice, and charity.

To ensure the festival is celebrated peacefully and law and order is maintained, authorities have implemented strict security measures in several cities.

In the national capital, heavy security has been deployed around the historic Jama Masjid for Eid al-Adha. Entry into the mosque premises is allowed only after thorough checks for security reasons.

Eid al-Adha, known as Bakrid in India, holds significant religious importance for Muslims worldwide. The festival commemorates the devotion and sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim, who was prepared to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. This occasion symbolizes unwavering faith, obedience to God, gratitude, compassion, forgiveness, sacrifice, and charity.

While Bakrid is being celebrated on Thursday in most parts of India, some regions, including Jammu and Kashmir, observed it on Wednesday.

The date of Eid al-Adha is determined by the sighting of the moon. This year, religious authorities in many parts of India reported that the Dhul-Hijjah moon was not sighted on time. Consequently, the start of the Islamic month was pushed back by a day, leading to the celebration of Bakrid on May 28 in most states.
