Action Taken After Controversial Dance Video at Jharkhand School

Garhwa, March 5: The education department has taken strict action following the emergence of a controversial video from a government school in Garhwa district, Jharkhand. The principal of the upgraded middle school in Sohbaria has been suspended, and the process for terminating the services of two other assistant teachers has begun.

District Education Officer Kaiser Raza stated that the action was taken after an investigation into a video that circulated on social media. The footage shows inappropriate dancing to objectionable songs within the school premises, allegedly involving teachers dancing inappropriately with female students.

Initial investigations found that the incident violated school discipline and teacher conduct standards. Consequently, the principal, Kundan Kumar Ranjan, was suspended immediately under the Jharkhand Government Servant Rules, 2016. During the suspension, he will report to the district education officer’s office in Garhwa and must register daily biometric attendance to receive his subsistence allowance.

The event in question was a farewell ceremony for eighth-grade students, during which a DJ was set up, and dancing occurred, leading to the video’s viral spread on social media. The conduct of assistant teachers Purushottam Pandit and Subeshwar Ram has also been deemed seriously inappropriate. The district education department has initiated the process for their termination under the Jharkhand Assistant Teacher Service Conditions Rules, 2021. A thorough investigation of the viral video is ongoing, and further actions may be taken if necessary.
