Mumbai, May 19: Abu Azmi, the Maharashtra State President of the Samajwadi Party and a legislator, has responded to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s statement regarding the prohibition of prayers on public roads. He also commented on the anti-encroachment drive in Bandra and the administrative meetings scheduled before Bakrid. Azmi stated that the focus on Hindu-Muslim issues is merely a distraction from the country’s real problems.
In response to Adityanath’s remarks about prayers, Azmi remarked that this should not even be a topic of debate. He asserted, “Hindu-Muslim issues are being raised solely for polarization, which is dangerous for the country. The situation in the country is dire. Inflation is rising, people lack jobs, and they are being told to save on diesel and petrol. At such a time, statements regarding prayers on the streets are being made while the world progresses rapidly.”
Azmi also questioned the government’s actions regarding the anti-encroachment campaign in Bandra. He emphasized that if people are citizens of this country, they should have homes to live in.
He stated, “If people had proper places to live, no one would be residing on footpaths or constructing illegal homes. A good government is one that provides every citizen with a place to live. If the small homes of the poor are deemed illegal and demolished, where will they go? They are citizens of this country too. The government needs to consider this.”
He criticized the bulldozer actions that originated in Uttar Pradesh, labeling them as a ‘fashion’ that should be completely halted.
Regarding the meetings scheduled before Bakrid, Azmi expressed his displeasure. He noted that there used to be extensive meetings with the Chief Minister, Commissioner, and officials from all departments each year, but this time, the meeting was significantly shorter.
He added that every year, discussions about police checks on the transportation of vehicles and animals take place, but some individuals engage in hooliganism under the guise of cow protection.
