Kolkata, June 7: Amid rumors of Mamata Banerjee contesting from the Baharampur Lok Sabha seat, TMC MP Yusuf Pathan has released a video to clarify the situation. He stated that neither Mamata Banerjee nor any party leader has asked him to resign from his position as an MP.
In the video, Yusuf Pathan said, “Hello friends, I want to share something with you. There has been a viral news story claiming that Mamata Banerjee asked me to resign from my position as the Baharampur MP so that she can contest in the upcoming elections. This has never been communicated to me. In our last meeting, she did not mention this, nor did she instruct any official party leader to inform me.”
Pathan emphasized that this information is entirely false. He expressed disappointment that, despite the lack of any official news, discussions and debates about this topic continue on social media and in various media outlets. He reiterated that neither Mamata Banerjee nor any party leader has requested his resignation.
Additionally, former cricketer Sourav Ganguly’s name has surfaced in this context, prompting him to issue a clarification to the media.
On June 6, Ganguly stated that a report published on June 4 claimed he had contacted Yusuf Pathan on behalf of Mamata Banerjee. The report alleged that he conveyed a message to Pathan suggesting he resign from his MP position to allow Banerjee to contest from Baharampur in a potential by-election. It was also mentioned that Pathan was not willing to accept this proposal.
Ganguly dismissed all these claims as completely false. He clarified that Mamata Banerjee never asked him to relay any message to Yusuf Pathan. He stated that he received no requests regarding leaving the parliamentary seat or any other political matter.
Ganguly also noted that he has never contacted Yusuf Pathan regarding such issues. He stressed that he has not been involved in political matters at any level concerning the individuals involved.
