Sangrur, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : A young man reportedly attempted suicide by ingesting poison outside the District Commissioner’s office in Sangrur, prompting strong criticism of the Punjab government from Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, the state Congress president and MP from Ludhiana.
In a post on X, Raja Warring stated that the youth, identified as Jagga Singh from Namol village, took this drastic step due to threats and violence he faced after posting a video against drug abuse. He expressed frustration over the lack of police action regarding these threats.
“This is a very serious issue,” Raja Warring said, emphasizing that the matter extends beyond one individual. It highlights the safety of all those in Punjab who raise their voices against drug abuse. He argued that if individuals speaking out against drugs feel unsafe, the government’s claim of a “drug-free Punjab” comes into question.
The Congress leader pointed out that such incidents have been increasingly reported in Sangrur, with no satisfactory responses to previous cases. He urged the state government to ensure thorough investigations into all complaints and to provide security for those advocating against drug abuse.
Raja Warring concluded his post by stating that Punjab needs “action, not hoardings; law, not PR; justice, not speeches.” As of now, there has been no official response from the Punjab government or police regarding this incident.
