Bhubaneswar, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : As the Odisha Assembly prepares for its seventh session of the 17th term from September 22 to October 3, security measures in Bhubaneswar have been significantly enhanced. The Commissionerate Police has deployed extensive resources to ensure safety during this critical period.
A total of 36 police platoons have been stationed to maintain strict security and manage traffic flow. This includes two Deputy Police Commissioners, six Additional Deputy Commissioners, 24 Assistant Commissioners, and 134 Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, and Assistant Sub-Inspectors. Additionally, a special tactical unit and 60 traffic personnel are on duty.
Eleven Quick Response Teams (QRT) have been established, with seven teams stationed inside the Assembly and two mobile units positioned nearby. One team will operate from Traffic Police Station-1, while another will be based at the Public Service Building.
The Twin City Police have set up three control rooms: one at the northern gate of the Odisha Assembly, another at the Unified Control Room on MG Road, and a third at the designated protest site. These control rooms will operate around the clock.
In light of recent incidents involving self-immolation attempts, a plainclothes team has been formed to prevent such occurrences. The officer in charge of the Capital Police Station will oversee this team’s operations.
Police officials have confirmed that adequate security measures are in place at the Assembly building’s roof and other sensitive locations to address any unforeseen events. Fire services, medical assistance, CCTV monitoring, communication systems, drinking water, and other essential facilities are also arranged. A bomb disposal squad is ready for immediate action, and drones will be utilized as necessary to monitor crowd activities and enhance security.
The Traffic Deputy Commissioner will manage vehicle parking within the Assembly premises and control external traffic to avoid congestion. A temporary team will also operate from the Bhubaneswar UPD regional office to facilitate necessary legal processes.
The Commissionerate Police has assured that all units have been briefed and are fully prepared to handle any situation that may arise during the Assembly session.
