New Delhi, June 13: World Yoga Day 2026 is just eight days away. The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has chosen “Yoga for Healthy Aging” as this year’s main theme. The ministry emphasizes that a healthy mind and body form the foundation for a better life at any age. In line with this, they have introduced the ‘Knee Movement’ yoga practice, which is highly beneficial for strengthening knees and hips.
As people age, knee pain, hip stiffness, and weakness in the lower body have become common issues. A sedentary lifestyle has exacerbated these problems. According to the Ministry of AYUSH, ‘Knee Movement’ (Samsthiti) is a simple yoga exercise that strengthens the knee and hip joints. It improves balance and makes daily activities like walking, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs easier.
Practicing ‘Knee Movement’ enhances joint flexibility, activates muscles, and maintains natural lubrication in the joints. Regular practice reduces knee pain, alleviates stiffness, and decreases the risk of injury. This exercise is particularly beneficial for those who engage in minimal physical activity or sit for extended periods.
Experts indicate that knee pain and instability often signal underuse or weakness of the joints. Simple exercises like ‘Knee Movement’ provide a natural solution to these issues. This exercise can be easily performed at home without any equipment. When done correctly, it gradually increases joint mobility and strengthens the body.
Begin this practice slowly. If anyone experiences sharp pain, it is advisable to consult yoga experts. This equipment-free exercise improves body posture and enhances balance.
