Trump Praises Modi as One of the Worlds Most Influential Leaders

Washington, June 20: U.S. President Donald Trump has hailed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as one of the world’s toughest and strongest leaders. In a recent interview with Axios, Trump expressed his admiration for Modi, echoing similar praises made during a bilateral meeting in France.

According to excerpts from the interview published on Thursday, Trump highlighted Modi among the world leaders he respects most, alongside China’s President Xi Jinping. Trump characterized Xi as a “fully focused” leader, while he described Modi as “very tough.”

This aligns with Trump’s previous remarks during the G7 outreach summit in Évian, where he and Modi discussed bilateral trade agreements and regional security issues.

When asked how close the U.S. and India are to finalizing a trade deal, Trump commended Modi’s negotiation skills. He stated, “We are very close. We’ve been working on this for a long time.” Trump noted that Modi’s calm and simple demeanor often conceals his strong political decision-making.

He remarked, “When you see him, you learn something. He looks very good, like an angel. But in reality, he is very strong.” Trump emphasized that Modi’s appearance matches his strength as a leader, which sometimes surprises people.

These comments indicate that Trump views India as one of America’s key partners. During their meeting, he frequently linked India’s growing global influence to Modi’s leadership.

When asked about India’s potential role in bringing peace and stability to the Middle East, Trump affirmed, “Yes, I believe so. I think India plays a significant role in everything.” He added that as long as Modi is in power, India will continue to play a major role.

Trump also reminisced about his longstanding friendship with Modi, stating, “He has been my friend for a long time, and our relationship has always been good.”
