Xi Jinping Leads Meeting on Flood Control and Drought Relief Efforts

Beijing, July 1: On June 30, the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee convened a meeting to discuss the implementation of flood control and drought relief measures. General Secretary Xi Jinping presided over the session.

The meeting highlighted the increased frequency of extreme weather and climate events in China during this year’s main flood season, raising concerns over both drought and flooding. All sectors and relevant departments are urged to take concrete steps to effectively manage flood control, drought relief, and disaster response.

It was emphasized that the safety of people’s lives must always be the top priority. Improvements in monitoring and forecasting accuracy are essential, and immediate, decisive actions should be taken to evacuate people to safe areas to prevent large-scale casualties.

The meeting also stressed the need for prompt and efficient emergency rescue and disaster relief operations. Enhancements in the preparation of forces, equipment, and materials are necessary, along with strengthening overall planning and preparedness to improve rescue capabilities in extreme situations.

CPC committees and governments at all levels were called upon to seriously implement the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee and to strictly enforce the accountability system for flood control and drought relief.
