BAPS Celebrates 250th Anniversary of American Independence with Festivities

Washington, July 15: The Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) celebrated the 250th anniversary of American independence with vibrant festivities. Temples were adorned with red, white, and blue lights in honor of the occasion.

BAPS participated in flag-raising ceremonies across the nation, engaging diverse communities through interfaith gatherings, open houses, and service initiatives. These events honored those who contributed to the nation’s freedom. BAPS emphasized that their journey reflects the broader American experience, characterized by courage, service, opportunity, and a sense of belonging.

According to a press release, veterans and community members gathered at BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham in Robbinsville, New Jersey, for a flag-raising ceremony. Devotees and families waved American flags to express gratitude and unity.

In Los Angeles, the BAPS temple hosted a flag-raising ceremony with local veterans, opening its doors to the wider community to share its culture, values, and commitment to service.

State Representative Brian Lorenz from Los Angeles remarked, “This celebration provides a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the fundamental ideals and enduring values that have shaped the United States.”

In Houston, mayors from Sugar Land, Missouri City, Pearland, and Stafford joined the celebration. The temple was illuminated with red, white, and blue lights, and the national anthem was played. Many activities focused on religious freedom, diversity, and community service. Participants engaged in interfaith dialogues, volunteer work, and family activities.

A letter from BAPS spiritual leader Mahant Swami Maharaj included prayers for the 250th anniversary of America. The letter stated that the nation’s freedom and opportunities have allowed the community to be part of the American story, emphasizing a shared responsibility to serve, strengthen, and advance the country.

Local leaders, veterans, religious representatives, nonprofit partners, and residents came together for these events. For many families, this anniversary was a moment to express gratitude for education, career opportunities, and the preservation of their cultural heritage.

BAPS Charities incorporated the theme ‘America250’ into its annual ‘Walk-Run’ events. Thousands across North America participated to support local charitable efforts. These events benefited hundreds of organizations working in health, education, humanitarian relief, environmental conservation, and social welfare.
