Beijing, July 15: On July 1, 2026, the Chinese populace celebrated the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). This occasion served as a platform to showcase the unprecedented achievements China has made in various fields of human development under CPC leadership over the past century.
This historic milestone provided the international community with an opportunity to closely examine China’s developmental journey under the CPC. It also offered insights into China’s unique political party system and governance model.
During the grand assembly held in Beijing to commemorate the CPC’s 105th anniversary, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission Xi Jinping stated, “Through relentless struggle, the CPC has written the most glorious chapter in the history of the Chinese nation spanning thousands of years. The efforts of the past 105 years have not only profoundly influenced the course of world history but have also established the CPC as a strong and vibrant Marxist party.”
Western Narrative vs. Reality
This 105th anniversary arrives at a critical juncture marked by intensified ideological clashes. The United States, Europe, and some of its allies in Asia have been promoting a narrative aimed at curbing China’s influence on the global stage, advocating for the imposition of a Western political framework on China. Their goal is to question China’s growing role in the global economy and intervene in its internal affairs. However, the ground reality is starkly different.
Many in the West still struggle to understand China’s political system accurately. They often shy away from fairly assessing the CPC’s historical contributions, which include lifting the world’s most populous nation out of poverty and backwardness to the heights of prosperity and power in less than a century.
China has adopted a distinct path to modernization, rooted in its history, culture, and national conditions. This is not a temporary experiment but a permanent and practical alternative.
From 1921 to 2026: The Evolving CPC
Founded in 1921 in Shanghai with over 50 members, the CPC has now grown into a party with over 100 million members. The difference between that small group and today’s party is monumental. Its roots now extend to every city, county, and village in China.
The past 105 years have symbolized resilience and continuous adaptation. The CPC’s greatest achievement has been guiding China along the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. This journey has led to widespread prosperity, improved living standards, and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
A historical milestone was reached in 2020 when China accomplished its “first centenary goal” — the eradication of absolute poverty. In less than a decade, lifting 100 million rural residents out of poverty was the largest campaign in human history. The CPC’s commitment to providing people with a “better life” serves as a crucial example of goal-oriented governance for policymakers worldwide.
Ideals, Legitimacy, and Global Role
Under the CPC’s leadership, China has undergone a complete transformation, characterized by clear ideals and long-term planning. By renewing its leadership from generation to generation, the CPC has adapted to every crisis without straying from its founding mission.
This continuity has positioned China as the world’s second-largest economy, a leading innovation hub, and a country with the largest education, social security, and healthcare systems. The average life expectancy has also surpassed 79 years. With this record, China’s voice now plays a vital role in setting global rules across trade, climate, infrastructure, technology, and public health. No external pressure can alter this trajectory.
The 105th anniversary is not merely a day of remembrance but an opportunity to understand what the CPC’s experience signifies for China and the world.
President Xi Jinping remarked, “The CPC possesses qualities unmatched by any other political party. The CPC is committed to the pursuit of truth and always follows the right path.”
China’s Contribution to Global Development
An ancient Chinese saying goes: “Improve oneself in poverty, and dedicate oneself to human welfare in prosperity.” Inspired by this spirit, China believes that its progress will enhance the world, and the world’s prosperity will benefit China. With this mindset, China calls on all nations to establish a new type of international relations based on mutual respect, equality, justice, and win-win cooperation, considering the well-being of humanity as a shared mission.
China is a major engine of global development. Since the reforms and opening-up, China has linked its growth with global development. It has responsibly integrated itself into the global economic system and provided stability and momentum to the world economy through its rapid economic growth. According to World Bank data, China’s contribution to global economic growth in recent years has exceeded 35%, surpassing the combined contributions of the United States, the European Union, and Japan.
Today, China is the largest trading partner for over 130 countries and regions. Under the Belt and Road Initiative, China has signed cooperation documents with more than 150 countries. By 2025, trade between China and these countries is expected to reach 23.6 trillion yuan, approximately 3.3 trillion dollars. China not only provides the world with affordable and quality goods but also offers a vast market and a better investment environment for foreign products, services, and capital. Additionally, China plays a significant role in the development and infrastructure of other countries through its foreign direct investment.
