Xi Jinping Calls for Concrete Measures to Modernize Agriculture and Rural Areas

Beijing, June 24: Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Tezhou city in Shandong province on Wednesday. During his visit, he emphasized the need for concrete steps to accelerate the modernization of agriculture and rural areas.

Xi stated that modernizing agriculture and rural regions is crucial for the overall progress and quality of China’s modernization. He urged for solid actions across all sectors, focusing on improving agricultural productivity, quality, and efficiency. He highlighted the importance of ensuring a stable supply of essential agricultural products like grains, promoting the construction of livable, functional, and beautiful villages, and guiding a large number of farmers to improve their lives through hard work and intelligence.

As it is the summer sowing season, the atmosphere in the fields is bustling. That morning, Xi visited the eastern Yuchia village in the town of Pianlin, where he gathered information on summer production, wheat harvesting, corn sowing, and the supply of agricultural production materials.

He inspected irrigation canals in agricultural land to review integrated water and fertilizer facilities. Xi then engaged in friendly discussions with large-scale grain producers, agricultural machinery operators, and technicians. He was pleased to learn that wheat yields per mu have increased this year and that corn sowing is proceeding swiftly without delays.

He stressed that ensuring a stable supply of grains and other essential agricultural products is paramount for agricultural production. It is necessary to implement all supportive policies for grain production, ensure the supply and price stability of agricultural production materials, actively promote advanced and suitable varieties, technologies, and equipment, and continuously improve yield and efficiency to strive for bumper harvests throughout the year.

Additionally, Xi emphasized the importance of improving agricultural infrastructure, ensuring the quality of high-standard agricultural land construction, promoting water conservation and agricultural efficiency, strengthening weather forecasting and disaster monitoring, and enhancing agricultural disaster prevention, mitigation, and relief capabilities.

Following this, Xi visited the western Yuchia village in Pianlin, recognized as a “national civilized village.” There, he toured the village’s party and public service center, learned about the construction of the village’s party organization and the provision of convenient services, and understood the local approach to promoting rural revitalization through regionalization. He also inspected the display of agricultural and auxiliary products. Xi expressed hope that the village’s party organization would further leverage its leading role in party building, fully mobilizing the enthusiasm of villagers to achieve new successes in creating livable, business-friendly, and beautiful villages.

At the home of villager Yi Xinhui, Xi observed the furniture, engaged in conversation with the family, and inquired about their employment, income, the health of the elderly, and children’s education. He also sought detailed information on whether the party’s policies related to agriculture, rural areas, and farmers are being fully implemented.

He stated that establishing and practicing the correct approach to work evaluation ultimately lies in the public interest. Most party members and workers should strengthen their awareness as public servants, develop deep affection for the people, undertake more good deeds, take practical steps, solve public issues, and genuinely enhance the sense of satisfaction, happiness, and security among the people.

As Xi departed from the village, residents warmly bid him farewell. He told them, “July 1 (CPC founding day) is approaching, and we are about to celebrate the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party. For 105 years, our party has united people from all ethnic groups across the country and led them in continuous struggle, achieving great accomplishments that honor history and the people.”

Xi remarked that we are now embarking on a new journey to build a modern socialist country. We must work together to create a bright future on this new long journey and continuously fulfill the people’s aspirations for a better life. He expressed hope that under the party’s leadership, rural people will build a more beautiful home and live better lives.
