Mumbai, December 4. Actress Diya Mirza and director Zoya Akhtar recently participated in the ‘All Living Things Environmental Film Festival’, where they openly shared their views on serious issues like environmental protection, wildlife, climate change and social justice.
Speaking to Daily Kiran, actress Diya Mirza said, “This is an excellent film festival where you can see not only wildlife documentaries but also many stories related to common people’s lives. Outstanding films on complex issues related to earth and environment, and questions of social justice are showcased here. Films from India and across the world are shown in different formats.”
The actress revealed that she was also part of the jury at this festival last year. She said, “Jury work is very difficult. During this period, we watched many films over six months, from which I learned a lot. I understood that stories are the most powerful medium to convey environmental messages to people.”
Diya further mentioned that a Marathi film from her production house was also screened at the festival. She said, “A Marathi film from my production house is also being shown here. I started producing films at the age of 26. I haven’t made many films, but whatever I have made has been good. I believe the stories we create should bring change in people’s lives.”
The actress said, “I have been tracking air pollution for quite some time. Earlier, when we used to raise this issue, nobody would talk about it. The world’s most polluted cities are in India. We are only talking about Delhi and Mumbai. There are many other cities that are extremely polluted.”
Director Zoya Akhtar said, “This festival is very important. Film is the most powerful medium. If we can spread messages through it, we can do good work for our planet and future generations.”
Zoya mentioned that her film was also screened at the festival. This film shows the story of a person who documented the condition of sea turtles and wildlife by walking along the entire Indian coast.
