Ghaziabad, August 30: A police encounter took place in the Loni area of Ghaziabad involving the SWAT team and local police against suspected criminals. During the exchange of fire, one suspect, wanted for chain snatching, was injured in the leg, while his accomplice managed to escape into the darkness. The injured suspect was apprehended and taken to the hospital for treatment.
According to police reports, a routine check of suspicious individuals and vehicles was underway near the Nithora underpass. During this operation, a tip-off indicated that the suspects involved in a recent theft were approaching on a motorcycle. When the police signaled the bikers to stop, they attempted to flee by turning their motorcycle.
As the police pursued them, the suspects’ motorcycle skidded. Allegedly, one of the suspects opened fire on the police team with a firearm. In response, the police returned fire, injuring the suspect. The injured individual was identified as 35-year-old Mohammad Asif from Sultan Nagar, Mustafabad Loni. His accomplice, identified as Danish, escaped during the chaos.
ACP Ramkishan Rana reported that on August 23, criminals had entered a shop in the Loni area and snatched a woman’s chain. Following this incident, the police registered a case and began searching for the culprits.
During interrogation after his arrest, the suspect revealed that he and his accomplice Danish had executed the chain snatching on the night of August 23 from a woman sitting outside a grocery store on Sitara Masjid Road, Mustafabad Loni. According to police, Asif received approximately 40,000 rupees from the theft, of which only 16,000 rupees remained after expenditures.
The police claimed to have recovered an illegal firearm, a spent cartridge, a live cartridge, a stolen motorcycle, 16,000 rupees in cash, and a receipt from Muthoot Finance from the suspect’s possession.
