Mysuru, August 30: Heavy Industries and Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy expressed his deep connection with differently-abled individuals during an event in Mandya. He recalled his tenure as Chief Minister, highlighting the system he established that allowed them to voice their concerns directly at Vidhana Soudha.
Kumaraswamy stated, “Differently-abled individuals are very close to my heart. When I was Chief Minister, they used to come directly to Vidhana Soudha. I created that system myself.”
He spoke after distributing assistive devices to 299 differently-abled beneficiaries at the Ambedkar Bhavan in Mandya. These devices were provided under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO).
He emphasized the need for dignity and self-respect, stating, “Differently-abled individuals do not need sympathy. Instead, they should be given opportunities to live with dignity and self-respect. They deserve equal opportunities, and it is everyone’s responsibility to support them.”
The distributed items included battery-operated tricycles, prosthetic limbs, hearing aids, and other assistive devices, amounting to a total value of ₹50 lakh.
Kumaraswamy also inaugurated a digital assessment system at the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS), established with a ₹1 crore investment from Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) under its CSR fund. He visited the hospital in the morning to unveil this new system.
Additionally, he toured a government school in Halali, where he inaugurated two well-equipped classrooms funded by a ₹32.50 lakh grant from ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS India) under its CSR initiative.
Kumaraswamy laid the foundation stone for two new classrooms at the former municipal college in Mandya, also financed by a ₹32.50 lakh grant from AM/NS India’s CSR program.
Overall, Kumaraswamy participated in CSR initiatives in Mandya with a total investment of ₹2.15 crore. After inaugurating the new classrooms at the Halali government school, he remarked on the central government’s commitment to prioritizing education under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
He concluded, “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership, education is being given the highest priority. The central government is taking steps to provide quality infrastructure to schools and colleges.”
