Kolkata, June 18: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has directed the Diamond Harbour police district to take stringent action against those attempting to breach the Falta police station. This order comes in light of recent events involving the arrest of Trinamool Congress leader Jahangir Khan’s wife, Regina Bibi.
The incident occurred when a group of Trinamool workers, led by Regina Bibi, attempted to storm the police station to secure Khan’s release following the recent assembly elections.
So far, eight individuals have been arrested in connection with this incident, while Regina Bibi remains at large.
Addressing a public meeting in Falta, CM Adhikari emphasized that all individuals seen attacking security personnel in video footage will face severe consequences. He stated, “On Tuesday, I was in Kurseong, but I watched on television as a group led by a local mafia’s wife attempted to invade the Falta police station and assault security staff. I want to remind everyone that the rule of law has been established in Falta. No matter how powerful the mafia is, the current state government will teach them a lesson.”
He has instructed the district police superintendent to file cases against those involved under the stringent provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Adhikari asserted that not only will they ensure these individuals are imprisoned, but their properties will also be seized and later auctioned. “Our approach will be one of zero tolerance, as establishing the rule of law is our primary objective,” he added.
