
Amaravati, June 18: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has ordered a senior IPS officer to investigate the disappearance of a young man from a police lockup in Vijayawada. The family alleges that the youth was tortured and killed while in custody.
Gade Sai Krishna has been missing for over a month after being detained by police in connection with a case. His mother suspects that he may have been murdered while in police custody.
The Chief Minister directed Police Chief Harish Gupta to conduct a thorough and high-level investigation into the matter.
On Wednesday, Naidu held a review meeting with senior police officials at the secretariat. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan also attended the meeting. The Chief Minister met with the officials immediately upon returning from a trip to Singapore. Senior police officials, including DGP Harish Kumar Gupta, provided detailed information about the incident to Naidu and Kalyan.
Naidu ordered the suspension of Circle Inspector Nagaraju, who has been accused in the case. He emphasized that the investigation should be conducted impartially by a senior IPS officer. Deputy Chief Minister Kalyan urged for strict action against those found guilty.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Sai Prasad, Intelligence Chief Mahesh Chandra Laddha, Vijayawada Police Commissioner Rajasekhar Babu, and others.
The DGP informed the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister that Circle Inspector Nagaraju has been transferred to the vacant reserve (VR) position.
Sai Krishna was reportedly taken into custody by police on May 9 in connection with an ongoing investigation. The approximately 25-year-old youth has not returned home.
Sai Krishna’s mother, Vijayalakshmi, filed a habeas corpus petition in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, demanding that her son be produced in court. The High Court has directed the police to locate Sai Krishna and present him before the court at the next hearing.
