Ranchi, June 18: Voting for two Rajya Sabha seats from Jharkhand was completed peacefully on Thursday. All eyes are now on the counting and results scheduled to begin at 5 PM. The electoral contest was between Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s (JMM) Baijnath Ram, Congress’s Pranav Jha, and independent candidate Parimal Nathwani, supported by the NDA.
Political activities surged in the assembly complex from early morning. NDA and INDIA alliance legislators arrived in separate groups to cast their votes. All 24 NDA legislators traveled together by bus to the assembly. Meanwhile, the INDIA alliance legislators voted at staggered times between 9 AM and 2 PM.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren arrived with his wife, Kalpana Soren. The last vote was cast by JMM’s Sudivya Kumar, a member of the state government. A spirited atmosphere was observed among leaders and legislators from both sides during the voting process. After voting, several NDA legislators displayed victory signs, expressing confidence in their success.
NDA-supported candidate Parimal Nathwani stated that he trusts all legislators and, if given the opportunity, will continue to work for the state’s development. He claimed to have support from legislators across various parties.
Conversely, the INDIA alliance appeared equally confident. Minister Deepika Pandey Singh asserted that their candidates would win both seats. She mentioned that all alliance legislators are united and their numbers favor them.
Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey also emphasized that Jharkhand would maintain its political dignity and unity. The lead-up to this election saw heightened political activity in the state. BJP and its allied legislators were staying at a hotel in Ranchi, while Congress adopted a separate strategy to keep its legislators united. Ongoing meetings addressed concerns over cross-voting and electoral mathematics.
According to vote calculations, Baijnath Ram’s victory for the first seat is considered certain, while the second seat is contested between Pranav Jha of Congress and NDA-supported Parimal Nathwani. With the voting process concluded, all parties are now focused on the results, which may signal new developments in the state’s political landscape.
