Ranchi, June 18: Voting is currently taking place for the Rajya Sabha elections in Jharkhand. Ahead of the polls, both the ruling party and the opposition have been working to keep their legislators united. Strict security measures have been implemented. Legislators from all parties are seen voting according to their political party’s directives.
There are three candidates contesting in this election. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has nominated Baijnath Ram, while the Congress has put forward Pranav Jha. Additionally, independent candidate Parimal Nathwani, supported by the BJP, is also in the race.
Before voting commenced, several NDA legislators arrived in Ranchi by bus. Security and surveillance arrangements were reinforced to ensure a smooth voting process. The attendance of legislators is reported to be nearly complete, raising hopes for a higher voter turnout.
Political activity was also evident during the voting in the assembly premises. A heated argument occurred between Congress legislator Jaymangal Singh from Beramo and a security officer, which briefly escalated tensions. However, the situation was quickly brought under control.
Political rhetoric surrounding the Rajya Sabha elections has intensified in Jharkhand. JDU legislator Saryu Rai expressed confidence that BJP leaders involved in election management would handle the process successfully. Meanwhile, opposition leader Babulal Marandi stated that legislators should vote according to their conscience, prioritizing the interests of the state and the nation.
In the meantime, BJP legislator Ujjwal Das claimed that NDA-supported candidate Parimal Nathwani would be elected to the Rajya Sabha. Throughout the voting process, all parties are closely monitoring political strategies and equations within the assembly.
The outcome of this election for the two Rajya Sabha seats could significantly impact the power balance and future political direction in Jharkhand. After voting concludes, the counting of votes will reveal which candidates emerge victorious and which coalition gains an advantage.
Jharkhand Minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey remarked, “Today we are moving towards the assembly with complete unity. I have hope and confidence that at a time when legislators across the country are being lured and political parties are being bought, Jharkhand will stand firm to protect its dignity and self-respect.”
