Thiruvananthapuram, July 28: Following a change in government, Kerala’s Industry Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty assured investors on Tuesday that the state’s industrial policies will remain stable. He emphasized that while governments may change, the policies will endure.
During a meeting with industry leaders organized by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), the minister stated that all projects announced under the ‘Invest Kerala’ initiative will continue as planned. He highlighted that continuity in policies will remain the cornerstone of the state’s investment strategy.
The government will launch three key initiatives as part of its 100-day program. These include an investment advisory council chaired by the Chief Minister, the ‘Invest Kerala Cell’ under KSIDC, and the establishment of ‘Kerala Desks’ in major global trade centers to enhance investor confidence and accelerate industrial development.
Kunhalikutty mentioned that the government is working to transition Kerala’s economy from one reliant on remittances to an investment-driven model by creating a comprehensive investment ecosystem.
He also noted that feedback from the industry will be considered before finalizing new initiatives through executive orders and legislative measures.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to improving the business environment, the minister stated that ‘Ease of Doing Business’ reforms will be prioritized, while the Investment Promotion Board and the Investment Advisory Council will provide strategic direction for industrial development.
He remarked, “Kerala is now considered one of the most suitable places to start a business and invest. The state has become a preferred destination for industries in India.”
Citing improvements in technology and infrastructure, Kunhalikutty pointed out that complaints from investors have significantly decreased. He stated that Kerala has made remarkable progress in information technology and emerging sectors.
He added, “If we can further strengthen skill development in these areas, Kerala could emerge as one of India’s most important investment destinations.”
Assuring entrepreneurs, the minister clarified that investments will be welcomed regardless of political affiliations. He stated, “No matter the political connections, investments will be welcomed, whether they come from supporters of the ruling party or the opposition.”
Proposed foreign ‘Kerala Desks’ in Dubai, London, New York, Singapore, and Tokyo will help attract global investments, particularly from the Malayali community.
Meanwhile, industry leaders have called for the establishment of a state land bank to improve Kerala’s investment climate, granting KSIDC statutory status, timely regulatory approvals, enhancements to the K-SWIFT portal, clarity on labor code implementation, and simplification of licensing processes.
