Visakhapatnam Tops Indias Non-Metro Job Market Again: LinkedIn Report

New Delhi, July 22: Visakhapatnam has once again secured the top position in India’s non-metro job market, according to a report released by LinkedIn. This report highlights the city as one of the fastest-growing hubs for hiring and professional migration.

Following Visakhapatnam, the top five cities include Ludhiana, Surat, Vadodara, and Prayagraj.

The report indicates that non-metro cities are no longer confined to traditional industries. There is a rapid increase in sectors such as technology, financial services, manufacturing, education, and infrastructure investment, creating new job opportunities across various fields.

According to the report, 72% of professionals in India are seeking new jobs this year. Meanwhile, 76% believe that the increasing skills gap related to artificial intelligence (AI) and heightened competition have made job acquisition more challenging than before.

The report also reveals that the number of applicants for each job has more than doubled compared to the beginning of 2022. In this environment, emerging cities are providing professionals access to diverse industries, companies, and better career opportunities closer to home.

These cities are evolving into multi-sector job markets. Alongside existing sectors like ports, textiles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and manufacturing, there is significant investment in AI, data centers, IT, and services.

Neerajita Banerjee, LinkedIn’s career expert and Senior Managing Editor for India, stated that these cities are rapidly integrating technology, financial services, infrastructure, and the service sector with traditional industries.

She advised job seekers to understand which sectors companies are investing in, which fields are advancing quickly, and how their current skills can be applied in other industries.

Banerjee emphasized the importance of focusing not only on metro cities but also on emerging cities and their associated new roles. This approach can lead to strong career opportunities that many are still unaware of.

The report notes that Visakhapatnam is strengthening its port, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing-based economy with investments in AI, data centers, and technology. Ludhiana is expanding its traditional manufacturing sector into steel, aviation, and hospitality.

Similarly, Surat is rapidly advancing beyond textiles and diamonds into startups, exports, and real estate. Vadodara is also experiencing growth in chemicals and machinery, alongside technology, engineering, and enterprise investments.
