Vijayendra Slams Congress Over Deve Gowdas Rajya Sabha Nomination Controversy

Bengaluru, June 8: Karnataka BJP President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra has launched a sharp attack on the Congress party in response to their criticism regarding the alleged non-nomination of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda for the Rajya Sabha. He asserted that Congress has no “moral authority” to comment on coalition politics.

Vijayendra reacted to remarks made by Congress General Secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh, suggesting that Congress should reflect on its own conduct before speaking on coalition matters.

He accused Congress of celebrating the defeat of the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi, despite being part of the coalition. Vijayendra claimed that the celebrations at some Congress headquarters were more exuberant than those at BJP offices.

The BJP leader further alleged that Congress has frequently changed its political equations overnight to gain power and ministerial positions, adopting a double standard in coalition affairs.

Referring to the opposition coalition, the India Alliance, Vijayendra noted that given Congress’s political history, its allies should have been aware of its behavior.

On the issue concerning Deve Gowda, Vijayendra stated that only Gowda could provide the most authentic account of how he was treated. He advised Surjewala to read the open letter written by Gowda to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, in which Gowda detailed his experiences with Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular).

Vijayendra recalled the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, mentioning that Congress leaders had provided detailed insights into the events of that time. He cited MLA Rajanna’s statement, which explained the circumstances under which Gowda lost the election.

The Karnataka BJP President also highlighted Congress’s historical treatment of senior leaders, referencing the alleged mistreatment of former Chief Ministers Devaraj Urs and Veerendra Patil.

He criticized the state Congress government, suggesting that instead of commenting on NDA’s Rajya Sabha nominations, Congress should focus on the internal strife regarding positions and departments within its cabinet. He claimed that such factionalism is affecting the state’s administration and governance.

Notably, earlier on Monday, Surjewala had described the news of Deve Gowda not receiving a Rajya Sabha ticket as “shocking and eye-opening,” criticizing the BJP and JD(S) leadership. Meanwhile, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy also retaliated against Congress leaders, labeling Surjewala as a “recovery agent.”
