Bengaluru, August 28: BJP MP Govind Karjol has accused former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of politicizing the issue of internal reservation. He stated that Siddaramaiah sheds “crocodile tears” for backward and marginalized communities now that he is out of power, but lacks genuine commitment to implement internal reservation.
Speaking to reporters at the BJP’s state headquarters, Jagannath Bhavan, Karjol mentioned that Siddaramaiah is now claiming he will discuss alleged discrepancies in the current system with Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to push for internal reservation.
Karjol questioned why Siddaramaiah, who has served as Chief Minister twice, did not implement internal reservation during his previous terms. He remarked, “The struggle for internal reservation has a 30-year history. Now, Siddaramaiah claims injustice has occurred and that he will speak to CM D.K. Shivakumar to implement it. But why didn’t he do this when he was in power?”
He alleged that Siddaramaiah received the Madhusudana Naik report just a day before resigning. Having presented 18 budgets, Siddaramaiah was well aware of the state’s financial condition and the lack of funds to implement reservation.
Karjol further accused Siddaramaiah of creating confusion around the issue, allowing it to reach the courts, and promoting protests to evade political pressure. He criticized the previous government for passing a bill proposing 56% reservation during the Belagavi session but failing to implement it.
He also accused Siddaramaiah of misleading the public by claiming he played a role in appointing G. Parameshwara as Deputy Chief Minister. During his tenure, Siddaramaiah reportedly sidelined Parameshwara, viewing him as a potential rival for the Chief Minister position.
Karjol claimed that Siddaramaiah has not treated leaders like Satish Jarkiholi, M.B. Patil, and Zameer Ahmed fairly. After losing power, Siddaramaiah is allegedly trying to create instability in the state while attempting to secure a political role for his son.
The BJP leader criticized Siddaramaiah for mishandling various reports related to backward classes and reservations. He accused him of ignoring the Kantharaj Commission and Jayaprakash Hegde reports while attempting to use the Madhusudana Naik report as a political weapon.
Karjol also pointed out that the Sadashiva Commission report was overlooked, and the government neither received nor implemented reports related to Nagamohan Das and Madhuswami.
Responding to the Valmiki Corporation issue, Karjol stated that the resignation of former minister B. Nagendra was insufficient, asserting that the entire state cabinet should have resigned.
