
Srinagar, February 25: Vice President CP Radhakrishnan is on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir starting Wednesday. Officials have confirmed that he will arrive at Srinagar Airport in the evening and head to Lok Bhawan in the Chashma Shahi area, where he will spend the night.
Upon his arrival, he will be welcomed by Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
On Thursday, he will be the chief guest at the 21st convocation ceremony of Kashmir University, where the Lieutenant Governor serves as the Chancellor and the Chief Minister as the Pro-Chancellor.
In anticipation of the Vice President’s visit, security measures have been intensified. Security forces have conducted a rehearsal of the route planned for the Vice President in Srinagar.
Temporary checkpoints have been established at various locations in the city to inspect vehicles. Searches have also begun for individuals entering the city to ensure the safety of VVIPs.
The traffic police have requested the public to adhere strictly to the alternative routes provided to facilitate the smooth passage of the VVIP convoy.
They have advised that on Thursday, no vehicles will be allowed to travel from Badiyari Chowk and Gupkar towards Nishat, Shalimar, Harwan, and nearby areas. Similarly, traffic from Ram Munshi Bagh towards Hotel Grand Palace will also be suspended, with vehicles redirected towards Dalget, Sangermal, and Ikhwan Chowk.
Officials have indicated that during the restriction period, traffic will be prohibited on the roads leading to Dalget, Khayam, Khanyar, Rainawari, Saidkadal, and Hazratbal. Drivers heading from Harwan, Shalimar, Nishat, Gandarbal, and surrounding areas towards Lal Chowk are advised to take the route through Chandpora, Tailbal, Zakura, Malbagh, Ilahi Bagh, and 90 Feet Road, and the same rules apply in reverse.
Passengers traveling from Dalget, Lal Chowk, and nearby areas towards Harwan, Shalimar, and Nishat should use the Sangermal, Ikhwan Chowk, Nowhatta, 90 Feet, and Malbagh roads to reach their destinations.
Drivers heading from Harwan, Shalimar, and Nishat towards Srinagar Airport will be allowed to take the route through Burzahama, Chandpora, Tailbal, Zakura, Malbagh, Ilahi Bagh, and 90 Feet Road. Vehicles from Panthachowk and Pandrethin heading towards RM Bagh will be permitted to travel via Peaks Motors Nowgam and the bypass.
Officials have stated that medical emergencies will be addressed only after proper verification. Citizens in need of assistance can contact the traffic police control room at 103.
