Kochi, June 17: A significant political scene unfolded outside the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Kochi on Wednesday, marking a pivotal moment in Kerala’s recent history.
During the ten-year tenure of former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the color black often symbolized conflict on the streets. Protesters waving black flags, wearing black shirts, or donning black masks frequently faced police action during public events. However, on Wednesday, this color was presented in a completely different context.
Veena Vijayan, daughter of Pinarayi Vijayan, arrived at the ED office for questioning related to the controversial CMRL-Exalogic case. As she exited her vehicle and entered the premises, she was seen wearing a black mask.
Once a symbol of dissent against the government, the black mask became part of the attire of the Chief Minister’s daughter as she faced a central investigative agency.
Veena arrived at the ED office in Kochi at 10:27 AM amid heavy security and a significant media presence. The atmosphere resembled that of a fortress, with police forces deployed and camera crews waiting for her arrival since morning.
The ED summoned Veena for questioning in connection with the case involving ‘Exalogic Solutions,’ an IT company she founded in Bengaluru. The agency is investigating alleged transactions between ‘Exalogic’ and ‘Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited’ (CMRL).
This case emerged nearly 30 months ago and has remained a major political issue in Kerala. Recently, the ED conducted a search at Vijayan’s residence in Thiruvananthapuram, where Veena resides. She was initially asked to appear last week but reported her ill health and offered to submit documents through her lawyer. This request was denied, leading to a new notice instructing her to appear in person. As Veena entered the ED office on Wednesday, the black mask became a symbol of political irony in Kerala.
