New Delhi, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi reached out to the family of Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh following his tragic death. The news was shared by Congress Rajya Sabha member Pawan Khera on social media.
Vikram Singh, a well-known guitarist from Manipur, was brutally attacked and killed outside his home in Delhi. Khera reported that Gandhi expressed his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family during the conversation.
Gandhi showed solidarity with the family, assuring them that their demand for justice would not be ignored. Earlier, he had publicly mourned Singh’s death and called for a swift investigation into the incident. The musician was assaulted by a group of delivery workers and dhaba staff after he complained about noise outside his apartment.
On social media platform X, Gandhi wrote, “Chongtham Vikram Singh, a renowned musician from Manipur, was killed after he went outside to ask a group to lower their noise. He was beaten to death.” He further noted, “A father was killed outside his own home in the capital of his country. After such incidents, every Northeast family in Delhi is asking the same question—are we safe here?”
Gandhi also questioned the actions of the Union Home Ministry and the Delhi Police regarding the rising chaos, especially against people from the Northeast. He demanded a thorough investigation and accountability for the perpetrators, extending his condolences to Singh’s family.
Authorities reported that the 54-year-old musician was attacked early Monday morning outside his apartment in Kilokri village. It is alleged that when he objected to the noise and drinking, a group of delivery workers and dhaba staff assaulted him.
The police have arrested seven individuals and detained a minor in connection with the case. The incident was reported to the Sunlight Colony police station, as Singh had been a resident of Kilokri for several years.
Initial investigations revealed that Singh confronted a group making a disturbance outside his home. According to police, they responded with punches and slaps, leading to his injuries.
