VD Satheesan Sworn in as Keralas 13th Chief Minister Amid Celebrations

New Delhi, May 18: VD Satheesan was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Kerala on Monday morning at a packed Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. The event marked the formal return of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government after a decade.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Kerala BJP president, extended his congratulations and best wishes to the new government. He emphasized the significance of democratic processes, stating, “Every five years, people get the chance to vote and choose a new government. Today is that day. It is a crucial moment in our democracy.”

VV Rajesh, the Mayor of Kerala, described the event as historic, highlighting the participation of senior political leaders from various parties. He noted the importance of this moment, especially with the presence of the state president at the ceremony.

Congress leader K. Muraleedharan expressed his commitment to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to him.

As Satheesan took the oath, the atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm. The crowd erupted in cheers as Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar called his name, with party workers waving flags and celebrating the return of the Congress-led coalition to power.

The event felt like a strong ‘political homecoming’ for Congress supporters, many of whom had awaited this moment for over a decade. The previous UDF government was led by the late Oommen Chandy, who took office in 2011.

Satheesan took his oath in the presence of thousands of supporters and dignitaries, invoking the name of God. The ceremony showcased political unity, with leaders from various parties and national figures sharing the stage with the new Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues.

Notable attendees included senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, outgoing Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar, along with Chief Ministers from Congress-ruled states Karnataka, Telangana, and Himachal Pradesh.
