The death toll from the landslide near Ardhkumari, close to the Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, Jammu, has risen to 30. SSP Reasi, Parveer Singh, provided this update on Wednesday morning. Last night, reports had confirmed the deaths of 7 people. Rescue operations are still underway, and the number of casualties may increase. Due to bad weather, the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage has been suspended.
On Tuesday, Jammu city recorded over 250mm of rainfall in less than 24 hours, leading to flood-like situations in many areas. Water has entered homes and fields, and several bridges and roads have been damaged due to landslides.

Over 3,500 people have been rescued and moved to safer locations. District administration, police, NDRF, SDRF, and the Indian Army are conducting rescue operations.
Northern Railway has cancelled 22 trains that either started from or stopped at Jammu-Katra today. Additionally, 27 trains have been short-terminated. However, train services between Katra and Srinagar remain operational.
Nine Trains Cancelled from Katra Base Camp
Out of the 22 cancelled trains, 9 were scheduled from Katra (the base camp for Vaishno Devi shrine) and one from Jammu. The remaining trains were to reach Katra, Jammu, and Udhampur. Furthermore, 27 trains have been short-terminated at Firozpur, Manda, Chak Rakhwala, and Pathankot. Heavy rain and landslides have also affected the Pathankot-Kangra rail track, causing flooding in the Chakki river and the suspension of rail services between Pathankot and Kandror in Himachal Pradesh. However, the Katra to Srinagar rail route remains open.
Bridge Collapses on Tawi River
In Jammu on Tuesday, a road near the bridge over the Tawi river collapsed, causing several vehicles to fall. Police reached the site for rescue. In Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, sudden cloudbursts on Tuesday led to flash floods, sweeping away 10 to 15 houses.
Jammu and Kashmir has been experiencing intermittent rainfall for three consecutive days. Several highways, including Jammu-Srinagar and Batote-Kishtwar, are closed. All schools, colleges, and government offices remain shut on Wednesday. Jammu airport has also been closed.
