Steady Improvement in Flights from the Middle East to India, Says Government

New Delhi, March 25: The number of flights arriving in India from the Middle East is showing consistent improvement. Non-scheduled flights from the UAE are being operated regularly, with nearly 80 flights expected to arrive in India from various airports on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

The statement noted, “Flights from Saudi Arabia and Oman to India continue. Due to the partial opening of Qatar’s airspace, Qatar Airways is expected to operate about nine non-scheduled commercial flights to India on Wednesday.”

Currently, the airspaces of Kuwait and Bahrain remain closed. Airlines such as Jazeera Airways and Gulf Air are operating special non-scheduled flights from Saudi Arabia, facilitating the return of Indian citizens to India.

The statement also mentioned that Indian citizens stranded in Iran are being assisted in returning to India via Armenia and Azerbaijan. With the help of the Indian Embassy, 1,043 individuals, including 717 students and 326 Indian citizens, have successfully exited Iran.

Indian citizens stuck in Israel are being facilitated to return through Jordan. Given the restrictions in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Iraq, Indian citizens continue to have transit options via Saudi Arabia.

Since February 28, approximately 426,000 travelers have returned to India from this region. During this period, a total of 2,149 flights, including scheduled and non-scheduled flights from Indian and foreign airlines, have operated to India.

The ministry is also assisting in repatriating the remains of Indian citizens. The statement confirmed that the body of an Indian citizen who passed away in Riyadh on March 18 has been brought back to India, and the government is in continuous contact with the family.

Furthermore, the ministry stated that Indian embassies in Oman, Iraq, and the UAE are in touch with local authorities regarding missing and deceased Indian citizens and are facilitating the swift repatriation of remains.
