New Delhi, June 7: Vaibhav Suryaanshi, a 15-year-old cricketer, will have his father by his side during the upcoming Tri-Series in Sri Lanka. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has arranged for his father to travel with him. Additionally, there is an option for them to also visit the UK and Ireland.
BCCI Secretary Devjeet Saikia confirmed this arrangement. In a conversation, he stated, “Vaibhav Suryaanshi’s father is arriving in Sri Lanka today, and we will offer him the option to travel to the UK and Ireland as well.”
Vaibhav will represent India A in the Tri-Series starting on June 9. Saikia explained that given Vaibhav’s young age, these arrangements are made to ensure he feels comfortable in a new environment. Vaibhav has also been selected for the Indian T20 team for the Ireland-England series and the Asian Games.
Saikia noted that Vaibhav has previously traveled with under-19, junior, or sub-junior teams, making him familiar with that setting. However, he will now be alongside senior players, which will be a new experience for him. At just 15 years old, the BCCI aims to make sure he feels secure and at ease.
Having his parents with him will provide Vaibhav with mental support, allowing him to feel more comfortable. This decision reflects the board’s commitment to ensuring that young talents like him do not feel isolated in a new team environment. Vaibhav is on the verge of becoming the youngest international cricketer for India, a record currently held by Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted at the age of 16 years and 205 days in 1989.
Saikia emphasized the board’s responsibility to ensure that players like Suryaanshi do not feel uncomfortable or alone in new surroundings. He stated, “It is our responsibility to ensure that no one feels uneasy or isolated in a new environment. This is our basic principle. We want him to gradually adjust to the senior team.”
