Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Calls for Accountability in Scholarship Distribution

Lucknow, August 3: Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary S.P. Goyal has mandated the appointment of nodal officers at the secretary or special secretary level in all relevant departments. This directive aims to ensure the effective, transparent, and timely operation of scholarship schemes for the financial year 2026-27. Goyal emphasized that improved coordination among departments, timely verification, and accountability are essential to ensure that eligible students receive their scholarships on time.

During a high-level review meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary on Monday, discussions focused on enhancing the scholarship distribution system and preventing the recurrence of issues faced in previous years. He issued clear instructions for all educational institutions to strictly adhere to the schedule released by the Social Welfare Department. Institutions must ensure accurate and timely entry of information regarding recognized courses, fees, seats, and other essential details on the portal.

Goyal directed universities and affiliated agencies to verify proposals related to new educational institutions, new courses, and changes in seat availability within the stipulated time. This will help avoid any disruptions in the scholarship application process, ensuring that eligible students can benefit from the schemes promptly.

The Chief Secretary also stressed the need for permanent solutions to technical and administrative issues that arise during the scholarship distribution process. If instances of incorrect or incomplete information uploaded on the portal are identified, necessary actions will be taken against the responsible officials and educational institutions.

The meeting revealed that a detailed schedule for pre-matric and post-matric scholarship schemes for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, General Category, and Minority students for the academic year 2026-27 has been released. This includes the entire process from integrating institutions into the master database to online applications, verification, and scholarship distribution.

Goyal reiterated that transparency, timeliness, and accountability in the scholarship distribution process must be the top priorities to ensure that no eligible student is deprived of the benefits of the scheme.
