Saharanpur, March 17: The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a 19-year-old BDS student from Moradabad for allegedly being connected to an online module of the terrorist organization ISIS.
The arrested student, Harish Ali, hails from the village of Mankamau in the Kutubshahr area of Saharanpur. While studying medicine in Moradabad, he was reportedly involved in activities related to the ISIS online module. The ATS has gathered evidence linking Harish Ali to the terrorist organization.
Reliable sources had informed the ATS that individuals in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, were actively participating in the banned terrorist organization’s modules. ISIS operatives have been creating groups on various encrypted apps, including Session and Discord, to recruit more members.
These groups aim to strengthen ISIS by sharing propaganda materials, ideological concepts, and directives. They are allegedly plotting significant terrorist activities under the ISIS banner in India.
Based on precise information from informants, the ATS confirmed the details through physical and electronic surveillance. In January, a case was registered at the ATS police station in Lucknow. The ATS team arrested Harish Ali on March 15 in Moradabad.
The investigation revealed that Harish, a second-year BDS student, intended to overthrow the democratically elected government and implement Sharia law under a caliphate system by collaborating with ISIS handlers and fellow militants.
He had created ISIS-supported groups on social media platforms like Instagram and encrypted apps such as Session and Discord, where he was recruiting individuals. In these groups, he shared ISIS media channels’ magazines, propaganda materials, and glorified images, videos, and audio of deceased militants along with speeches from notorious terrorists.
Harish’s network extended beyond India, connecting him with ISIS handlers in Pakistan and other countries. To further ISIS’s objectives in India, he established a separate group called “Al Ittihad Media Foundation.”
As an active ISIS member, Harish followed the ISIS media and news channel Al-Naba and its propaganda magazine Dabiq. He rejected democratic systems and aimed to establish an ISIS jihadist regime by implementing Sharia law. He encouraged group members to carry out suicide attacks.
Meanwhile, Harish’s home in Mankamau is locked. Neighbors reported that the accused student and his family have lived there since childhood, and no suspicious activities were ever noticed. His parents, grandparents, and siblings are involved in farming and medicine. The student reportedly spent most of the year at home, rarely interacting with others.
