LPG Ship Nanda Devi Arrives at Gujarats Vadinar Port

Bhuj, March 17: The Indian ship ‘Nanda Devi’ arrived at Vadinar Port in Gujarat on Tuesday, carrying a shipment of LPG. Officials confirmed that the vessel docked around 11:25 AM. This marks the second LPG shipment to reach the western coast this week, following the arrival of the ship ‘Shivalik’ at Mundra Port just a day earlier.

Both vessels navigated through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been affected by ongoing tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel. These ships received clearance from Iran to enter India. Due to escalating military actions and warnings from Iran, commercial shipping traffic has significantly decreased since the end of February.

On Monday, authorities at Kandla Port issued directives to prioritize anchorage for all LPG-carrying ships. This measure aims to expedite unloading and minimize delays. The Deendayal Port Authority informed ship agents via a circular that the Ministry of Shipping and Waterways has instructed ports to give priority to LPG-laden vessels to ensure uninterrupted distribution of cooking gas across the country.

The ‘Shivalik,’ which transported approximately 46,000 tons of LPG from Qatar, completed its nine-day journey and arrived at Mundra Port on Monday evening. Port officials had already arranged documentation and docking to facilitate immediate unloading.

Authorities indicated that both ships are part of efforts to enhance LPG supply for domestic and industrial use, as India relies heavily on imports for a significant portion of its energy needs.

With the arrival of ‘Nanda Devi,’ another ship, ‘Jag Ladki,’ carrying around 81,000 tons of crude oil from the United Arab Emirates, is currently en route. According to government data, there were 22 Indian-flagged vessels in the Persian Gulf region west of the Strait of Hormuz, with a total of 611 sailors on board.
