Varanasi, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : Central Minister for Women and Child Development, Annapurna Devi, will officially launch the ninth National Nutrition Month 2026 on September 9 in Varanasi. This initiative aims to enhance nutrition and health among women, children, and adolescents throughout the month.
The launch event will take place at the Rudraksh International Cooperation and Convention Center. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, along with State Minister for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur and other officials, will also attend.
Since its inception in 2018, National Nutrition Month has evolved into a “people’s movement,” celebrated every September. The initiative seeks to unite communities to improve nutrition, health, and caregiving practices among women, children, and adolescents.
Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Nourished India,” which aims to lay the groundwork for a “Developed India” by 2047, this year’s event will also commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY). This program has been pivotal in promoting better nutrition and health habits among mothers for the past decade.
According to the official statement, the campaign will ensure that all eligible pregnant and lactating women are enrolled in the program. It will also accelerate Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) initiatives and launch a PMMVY toolkit for states and Union Territories to implement locally.
The event will kick off with dignitaries inspecting a “Nutrition Fair” and lighting a ceremonial lamp. Attendees will be treated to hot meals, take-home rations, and videos showcasing beneficiaries’ experiences related to home-based services and early childhood care and education. Following this, there will be a direct interaction between the central minister and Anganwadi workers.
Films highlighting the achievements of PMMVY over the past decade and introducing National Nutrition Month 2026 will set the stage for the formal launch of the campaign by the dignitaries.
National Nutrition Month 2026 will be celebrated across all states and Union Territories through community programs at Anganwadi centers, schools, panchayats, and households. The initiative underscores that well-nourished children are a collective responsibility and form the strongest foundation for a “Developed India.”
