Thiruvananthapuram, June 23: Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, participated in the ‘Cycling by the Sea’ event organized by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, under the Fit India Movement. Starting from Chakai ITI, he led a scenic ride to Shankhumugham Beach along the coastline.
During the event, the minister emphasized, “Cycling is the key to good health. If we aspire to be a healthy nation, it is essential for every citizen to be healthy. Healthy citizens build a healthy society, and a healthy society lays the foundation for a healthy nation. Cycling is also an effective solution to pollution.”
He noted that cycling reduces traffic congestion, saves fuel, and helps maintain a clean environment. “I urge everyone to make cycling a part of their lives,” he added.
Dr. Mandaviya encouraged citizens to adopt cycling as a habit and participate in the ‘Sunday on Cycle’ initiative. He expressed joy at seeing many young people joining this movement.
This initiative, aimed at promoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the Fit India Movement, encourages people to embrace an active and healthy lifestyle through cycling and other fitness activities. During his visit to Kerala, Dr. Mandaviya will also tour the GV Raja Sports School in Mylom, one of the country’s premier sports institutions that has produced numerous outstanding athletes.
This visit reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots sports development and nurture young sporting talents. The minister will also participate in the Fun Run event for the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, held at the Kerala University Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
