Srinagar, May 15: Union Minister Jitendra Singh will lead discussions on women’s rights and empowerment at the two-day ‘Shakti Samvad’ organized by the National Commission for Women (NCW) starting Saturday.
According to an official statement, the fourth edition of ‘Shakti Samvad’ will take place on May 16 and 17. It will bring together state women’s commissions from across the country to discuss enhancing institutional coordination and mechanisms for women’s safety.
Jitendra Singh will address the inaugural session, while NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar will also speak. They will emphasize the importance of accountable governance, strong institutional collaboration, and grassroots mechanisms for protecting women’s rights and dignity.
The consultation will cover various topics, including an overview of state progress, a review of state laws from the perspective of women’s rights, recent Supreme Court and High Court rulings related to women, handling stalking incidents, legal and institutional responses, and discussions on women’s rights under the new labor codes, focusing on welfare and workplace dignity.
‘Shakti Samvad’ is a key consultative initiative of the NCW aimed at promoting close coordination and ongoing engagement between the NCW and state women’s commissions.
The first edition of this consultation was held in Ayodhya, followed by events in Mumbai and New Delhi. The edition in Srinagar further solidifies the NCW’s commitment to collaborative policymaking and institutional strengthening for women’s welfare across states.
This national-level consultation also reflects the increasing participation of institutions and stakeholders from Jammu and Kashmir. It highlights the significance of inclusive dialogue and coordinated governance in advancing women’s rights and ensuring their access to justice.
Senior government officials, legal experts, representatives from law enforcement agencies, policymakers, and members of state women’s commissions will participate in the event.
