SIT Strengthens Case Against Keralas ADGP Ajith Kumar with Revised Report

Thiruvananthapuram, July 17: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has bolstered its inquiry against Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M.R. Ajith Kumar in the controversial Alappuzha rescue operation case. This development has intensified pressure on the government to make a decision regarding the matter, which could have far-reaching implications for the state’s police system and its leadership.

The SIT has submitted a revised investigation report that explicitly names ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar. This report strengthens the findings against him with additional evidence.

The revised report was prepared after State Police Chief (SPC) R. Chandrashekar requested further clarification on five key points related to the investigation. Subsequently, he returned the original report submitted on June 23.

Following further investigation, the SIT addressed all the questions in its revised report and resubmitted it. This paves the way for the State Police Chief to seek clarification from ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar, enabling him to forward his recommendations to the Home Department.

According to official sources, the entire process is expected to be completed within a week.

If ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar fails to provide satisfactory answers, departmental action may be initiated against him. Such a scenario could also impact his promotion to the position of Director General of Police (DGP).

This situation arises at a time of significant importance, as the current DGP is set to retire on July 31. Among the officers being considered for the DGP position, ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar is one of the senior-most candidates.

If any disciplinary action is taken against him beforehand, it could hinder his promotion to the highest rank in the police force.

This controversy is also becoming a major political challenge for the Chief Minister. Television channel V.D. Satheesan has been repeatedly airing old videos where he criticizes the then-Pinarayi Vijayan government as the opposition leader in the assembly. He accused the government of delaying action in similar cases.

Following the resurfacing of Satheesan’s old statements, questions have been raised about the government. The delay in action based on the SIT report has put the government in the opposition’s crosshairs.

Meanwhile, Congress-affiliated organizations have alleged that a faction within the party is adopting an overly lenient stance towards ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar. They claim this is the reason for the delay in taking action against him.

In light of these allegations, demands for swift action from the government have intensified. The coming days are deemed crucial for both ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar’s career and the state government’s credibility regarding police accountability.
