New Delhi, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Central Minister Pralhad Joshi has invited sugarcane farmers from Karnataka to New Delhi for discussions regarding the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of sugarcane. This initiative aims to address their concerns without the need for protests.
Responding to farmers planning to demonstrate in Hubli, Joshi encouraged them to come to the national capital and engage with relevant officials to find solutions. In a video message shared on social media platform X, he emphasized that the central government, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, is always willing to address farmers’ issues. He expressed a warm welcome to the farmers for open discussions in Delhi.
“I invite Karnataka’s farmers to come to Delhi with full respect. We will arrange for farmer leaders to meet with the relevant officials to discuss their issues and seek resolutions,” Joshi stated. He stressed that there is no need for farmers to protest on the streets and urged them to engage in dialogue with the government instead.
Joshi highlighted that the central government has consistently increased the FRP for sugarcane each year. He noted that in May, the FRP was raised to ₹365. He assured that a fair price for sugarcane will be guaranteed this year as well. Reflecting on a previous encounter in February 2026, he recalled that farmer leaders had approached him demanding an increase in the FRP, which was subsequently raised.
Despite the increase, Joshi mentioned that he had not received any further communication from farmer representatives, although some are now planning protests again to demand an additional increase in the FRP. He reiterated that there is no need for demonstrations, as the government is prepared to respond to farmers’ concerns.
Furthermore, he clarified that any decision regarding an increase in the FRP will be made after considering the recommendations of the Agricultural Costs and Prices Commission and the reports from the state’s sugarcane commissioner. “If you come directly to Delhi, we will discuss this matter with the relevant officials and take steps to ensure a fair price,” he added.
Joshi reassured farmers that the government is ready to engage in detailed discussions regarding their concerns and confusion, and is committed to taking appropriate measures to provide relief. He urged them once again to come forward and engage in dialogue with the government.
