UGC-NET June 2026: Re-examinations for English, Commerce, and Sociology Announced

New Delhi, August 17: The UGC-NET June 2026 examinations for English, Commerce, and Sociology will be re-conducted. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to hold these re-examinations due to a significant number of serious errors found in the question papers of these subjects.

Complaints regarding language and spelling errors, along with a high frequency of repeated questions from previous exams, were reported. The re-examination is scheduled for September. An official notice was released by the agency on the evening of August 16, stating that candidates required to retake the exams will not have to pay any additional fees.

Following numerous complaints about the question papers for English, Commerce, and Sociology, the NTA formed a committee to investigate. The committee discovered various errors in the question papers, including misspellings of prominent scholars’ names, distorted book titles, inaccuracies in the original statements of questions, grammatical mistakes, mismatches in gender and number, and issues related to punctuation. Additionally, the use of non-standard new terms for established concepts and a large number of repeated questions from previous exams were also noted.

To ensure a fair and error-free examination, the committee recommended re-conducting the exams for these three subjects. The NTA has announced the dates for the re-examinations. According to the agency, the English exam will take place on September 9, from 9 AM to 12 PM. The Commerce exam is scheduled for the same day, from 3 PM to 6 PM, while the Sociology exam will be held on September 10, from 9 AM to 12 PM.

Previously, the NTA conducted the UGC-NET June 2026 exam between June 22 and June 30, covering 87 subjects. This exam was aimed at determining eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship, Assistant Professor positions, and PhD admissions.

The agency has stated that while the exam dates have been announced, information regarding the exam cities, centers, and admit cards will be released later on the official website.

Notably, the NTA released the answer keys for 84 subjects of the UGC-NET on Sunday. The agency confirmed that the results for these subjects will be published as per the scheduled timeline, despite the re-examinations for English, Commerce, and Sociology. This will not delay the issuance of electronic certificates for Junior Research Fellowship allocations and eligibility for Assistant Professors and PhD admissions.

According to the agency, the number of candidates declared eligible for Assistant Professor positions will be 6% of the total candidates who appeared in the June 2026 exam or the re-examination. The allocation of subjects for Junior Research Fellowship, Assistant Professor eligibility, and PhD admissions will follow the provisions outlined in the information booklet.

Importantly, the number of allocations after the re-examination will not be reduced under any circumstances. The agency has assured its commitment to conducting a fair, accurate, and transparent examination. Candidates are advised to rely solely on the official websites of the National Testing Agency and UGC-NET for exam-related information.
