Udaipur Police Bust Kalbelia Gang Behind Multiple Residential Thefts

Udaipur: The Udaipur police have achieved a major breakthrough by apprehending six members of the notorious Kalbelia gang, involved in over fifteen cases of theft, burglary, and robbery targeting unoccupied residential houses across Udaipur, Chittorgarh, and Jodhpur districts. Additionally, one minor, currently under legal guardianship, has been detained in connection with the crimes.

The police superintendent of Udaipur, Mr. Yogesh Goyal, stated that in response to the rising incidents of theft and property-related offences in recent months, a special team was formed under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Mr. Umesh Ojha and Deputy Superintendent of Police, East Nagar Circle, Mr. Suryaveer Singh Rathore. These teams operated with a focus on swift detection and prevention.

Under the leadership of Acting Station Officer, Sub-Inspector Ajayraj Singh, the teams conducted intensive operations combining technical evidence, intelligence gathering, and traditional policing methods. This led to the arrest of active gang members operating in Savina police station area and other parts of Udaipur city. The suspects are seasoned criminals who lived in various city localities and worked as an organised group. They scouted for empty homes, broke locks to enter, and stole gold, silver jewellery, and cash before fleeing the scene.

Names of Arrested Accused: Dita alias Kalu alias Ankit, son of Narayan Nath Kalbelia (20), Purbiya Colony; Vijayanath, son of Kailash Nath Kalbelia (20), near Patwar Mandal, Badgaon; Govinda alias Gotu, son of Gotu Kalbelia (22), Indra Colony, Govardhan Vilas; Lokesh alias Bhoda, son of Devilal Kalbelia (20), Indra Colony, Govardhan Vilas; Mahendra alias Thepdi, son of Narayan Nath Kalbelia (22), Indra Colony, Govardhan Vilas; Anil, son of Rama Kalbelia (19), Pratapura, Javor Mines, Salumber district.

Criminal Records: Mahendra is facing eight cases including theft, robbery, and Arms Act violations. Lokesh has eight cases related to assault, attempted murder, and theft. Govinda has five cases involving robbery, assault, and rape. Vijayanath is charged in a rape case.

Revealed Crimes During Interrogation: The gang confessed to committing more than eighteen thefts, burglaries, and robberies in various police jurisdictions of Udaipur city, as well as in Chittorgarh and Jodhpur districts. Incidents include thefts from Savina, Govardhan Vilas, Badgaon, Sukher, Pratapnagar, Surajpol, Nai police areas, as well as Chittorgarh city and Jodhpur district. The accused stole dozens of tolas of gold, silver jewellery, cash, and even carried out daylight mobile phone snatching. Police investigations continue to identify other gang members, with more cases expected to be uncovered.

Noteworthy Police Efforts: Key personnel instrumental in this operation include Sub-Inspector Ajayraj Singh (Acting SHO, Savina), Head Constables Krishan Pratap Singh (523), Madan Singh (1429), Jitendra Singh (2764), and Constables Mangilal (1096), Chhaganlal (2533), and Kishore (3120) from Savina police station. Particularly, Head Constable Krishan Pratap Singh and Constable Mangilal played a vital role in the gang’s exposure.

4. Attempted theft on 15 December 2025 near Kain House, Ambamata Ghati area.
5. Theft of nearly thirty tolas of gold jewellery and cash from a house near Jogitalab colony, Govardhan Vilas police station, seven to eight months ago.
6. Theft of silver jewellery and cash from a house near Jogitalab colony, Govardhan Vilas police station, two months ago.
7. Theft of gold, silver jewellery, and cash from a house in Chikalwas area, Badgaon police station, about two months ago.
8. Cash theft from a house in Chikalwas area, Badgaon police station, two to two-and-a-half months ago.
9. Attempted theft at Bohraji’s house in Kharol Colony, Badgaon police station, two months ago.
10. Theft of gold and silver jewellery and cash from a house near RTO office, Kali Magari, Sukher police station, two months ago.
11. Theft of silver and cash from a house behind the police station colony, Sukher police station, three months ago.
12. Theft of gold and silver jewellery from a house in Rup Sagar Nagar, Bhuvana, Sukher police station, two to two-and-a-half months ago.
