Urgent Rescue Operation Underway for Toddler Trapped in Borewell in Ujjain

Ujjain, April 10: A three-year-old boy has been trapped in a borewell for nearly 12 hours in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Despite an overnight rescue operation, authorities have not yet succeeded in bringing him to safety. Currently, teams from the district administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are engaged in the rescue efforts.

According to reports, the child fell into the borewell while grazing sheep with his family in the Jhalaria village of Badnagar. The boy is believed to be approximately 75 feet deep. Efforts are underway to dig a tunnel to reach him, while his family remains nearby, anxiously waiting for updates.

The district administration initiated the rescue operation just hours after the incident. Several machines were brought to the site, and a second pit was dug around the borewell. However, as of Friday morning, the child remains trapped inside.

Ujjain’s Superintendent of Police, Pradeep Sharma, confirmed the incident, stating, “The rescue operation has been ongoing since around 9 PM on Thursday in Jhalaria village. A three-year-old boy fell into the borewell while with his family. Teams from the administration, NDRF, SDRF, and others are working tirelessly to rescue him.”

He further mentioned that the rescue team has deployed a camera and other devices into the borewell to monitor the child’s movements. Continuous efforts are being made to safely extract the boy.

A relative shared with a news agency that the child fell into the borewell, saying, “This happened when the child mistook the open mouth of the borewell for an open container like a bucket. The incident occurred around 7 PM. We set up camp away from the site, and when we learned of the incident, we rushed here.”
