New Delhi, April 5: The U.S. military has successfully located and rescued a pilot from an F-15E fighter jet that was downed during an Iranian attack. President Donald Trump confirmed the operation. Reports indicate how U.S. forces executed a rescue mission to retrieve the pilot from enemy territory.
CNN’s chief security analyst, Jim Sciutto, cited sources stating that the pilot, whose jet was shot down by Iranian forces, made contact with the U.S. military from behind enemy lines on Friday. This initiated the extraction operation.
Sciutto noted that the U.S. military first communicated with the missing pilot around noon local time, leading to ongoing efforts to locate him.
He added, “I was also informed that he sustained injuries during the ejection, which posed additional challenges, as the U.S. military had to ensure his safe extraction while addressing those injuries.”
Sciutto described the operation as remarkable, highlighting that low-flying aircraft were involved in the search for the service member. The low altitude increased the risk of fire for the aircraft.
According to U.S. officials, the rescue operation was extensive, lasting several hours. It began in darkness but continued into daylight.
Ravi Chaudhary, former director of the Personal Recovery Center in Iraq, praised the rescued American crew member, noting their precise execution of training.
Chaudhary told CNN, “The crew member was likely hidden in a very challenging environment, needing to alert rescue forces using various techniques, including equipment and signaling, such as flares. There are many ways to signal recovery forces, but they also had to avoid alerting enemy forces in the area.”
Ravi Chaudhary, a retired pilot of the Air Force C-17 and former assistant secretary in the Air Force, commended those involved in the operation, calling it a significant achievement.
Chaudhary stated, “Our personal recovery network is filled with individuals who share a singular goal: to bring pilots back to their families, and we will do whatever it takes to ensure that others can live as well.”
