Tehran, April 9: Iran has accused the United States of breaching key conditions of a ceasefire agreement amid Israeli attacks on Lebanon. Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that the US has violated fundamental terms of a 10-point proposal.
Iran emphasized that the basis for negotiations has already collapsed, rendering further discussions or ceasefire efforts unreasonable.
In a post outlining three conditions in English, Ghalibaf noted that Lebanon was a crucial part of the two-week ceasefire agreement with the US. As Iran’s ally, Lebanon and the entire resistance group are integral to this ceasefire. He also highlighted that Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif explicitly mentioned Lebanon, making any retreat from this position out of the question.
Ghalibaf warned that violations of the ceasefire would have clear repercussions and would be met with a strong response. He urged for the flames of conflict to be extinguished swiftly.
The term “resistance group” refers to Hamas in Palestine, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Houthi rebels in Yemen, and various insurgent groups in Iraq and Syria. All these factions are staunch supporters of Iran and have historically opposed Israel and the US.
Ghalibaf’s remarks come in the wake of significant Israeli bombardments on Lebanon, which resulted in 254 casualties and over a thousand injuries. While Israel justifies its attacks, European nations have openly condemned them.
The Trump administration has made it clear that Hezbollah was not part of the 10-point proposal. Former President Donald Trump stated that US forces would remain stationed around Iran until the agreement with Iran is fully implemented.
Trump warned on Truth Social that if the agreement is not upheld, hostilities would resume, potentially more intense and destructive than before. However, he noted that the likelihood of this is very low, but the US is fully prepared.
