Washington, April 7: President Donald Trump has threatened legal action against journalists and media organizations over a leak related to a high-risk U.S. rescue mission in Iran. He stated that reporters who refuse to reveal their sources could face jail time.
Trump emphasized, “We are working hard to find the leaker. The government will tell them that this is a matter of national security, so they must disclose the information, or they could go to jail.”
The leak revealed that one American pilot is still missing while another has been rescued, alerting Iranian officials and complicating the operation. Trump remarked, “Suddenly, all of Iran knew.”
He described the source as a “sick person” and warned that anyone who does not disclose their information could end up in jail.
This incident raises growing concerns about press freedom and national security reporting. Referring to the source who provided details about the missing pilot, Trump stated, “Reveal your source or go to jail.”
The White House confirmed that an investigation into the leak is ongoing. Trump noted that this disclosure has put the pilot in significant danger, as well as the hundreds of individuals involved in the search.
This situation highlights the increasing tension between the administration and the media amid a rapidly changing conflict, where operational secrecy for military missions is crucial.
During a news conference, Trump criticized a reporter from The New York Times, stating, “The New York Times has lost all credibility because they claimed I wouldn’t win the election, yet I won by a large margin. I won every swing state. Their credibility is that they used to publish newsworthy stories.”
Trump accused, “It was great. But they are stuck in the past, and you cannot keep doing that. You need to provide accurate news, and I consider people like you to be fake. You are fake.”
