Tragic School Shooting in Turkey Leaves 16 Injured

Ankara, April 14: A tragic incident unfolded in the Siverek district of Turkey on Tuesday when a former student opened fire in his old school, resulting in 16 injuries before taking his own life.

According to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency, Hasan Sildak, the governor of Sanliurfa, visited the Siverek State Hospital to meet with the injured.

He informed the media that the shooting occurred at the Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, where the assailant entered and began firing indiscriminately.

Among the 16 injured are four teachers, ten students, one police officer, and one canteen worker. Fortunately, there have been no fatalities. However, four individuals are in serious condition and have been transferred to a larger hospital in the city. The remaining 12 are receiving treatment at Siverek State Hospital.

The governor stated that a thorough investigation is underway from all angles. He revealed that the attacker was a former student of the school, having studied there until the ninth grade before enrolling in an open high school. Born in 2007, he took his own life before police could apprehend him. The school has been evacuated, and this is a deeply tragic event that will be investigated thoroughly.

Hasan Sildak expressed his condolences to the people of Siverek and Sanliurfa. He emphasized that both legal and administrative investigations will be conducted to uncover the truth as quickly as possible.

Sildak confirmed that the attack is being fully investigated and noted that the assailant had no prior criminal record. The chief prosecutor’s office will examine the judicial aspects of the case, and administrative investigation mechanisms will also be activated.
