
New Delhi, April 14: The government announced on Tuesday that all Indian sailors in the Gulf region are completely safe. No incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels have been reported in the last 24 hours.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways stated in an official release that the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) has successfully facilitated the safe return of over 2,262 Indian sailors from various locations in the Gulf, including 85 individuals in the last 24 hours.
Since the activation of the DGS control room, it has handled 6,292 calls and over 13,228 emails, with 219 calls and 361 emails received in the past day.
The ministry confirmed that operations at ports across the country are running smoothly, with no reports of crowds or disruptions.
The statement emphasized that the ministry is in continuous coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian embassies, and stakeholders in the maritime sector to ensure the safety of Indian sailors and the uninterrupted operation of maritime activities.
Additionally, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that Indian embassies and missions in the Gulf region are in constant contact with the Indian community, providing necessary safety advisories.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has engaged in discussions with the foreign ministers of Kuwait and Israel regarding the regional situation and the safety of Indians residing there.
He has also spoken with his counterparts in Singapore and Australia about the conditions in West Asia.
The ministry is maintaining regular communication with states and union territories to enhance information exchange and strengthen coordination.
The government reiterated that ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of Indian citizens is its top priority. Indian embassies are providing assistance through a 24-hour helpline and are in constant touch with local authorities.
